R&D

ONCOLOGY: GalChimia has partnered with HQL Pharmaceuticals in Israel for the discovery and development of small-molecule inhibitors of protein-protein interactions targeting apoptotic pathways, a programmed cell death that may occur in multicellular organisms with a key role in oncology. For this project HQL will use its state-of-the-art, proprietary computational platform to screen huge chemical libraries, covering a vast diversity of chemotypes while GalChimia will use its expertise and experience in the preparation of the selected compounds, to be tested in order to provide the desired biological activity data.

CORMPOI: The biotechnology company Alfama, with sites in Lisbon and Boston, is the world leader in CO-releasing molecules (CORMs), compounds with a potent vasodilatation activity. GalChimia has partnered with Alfama to develop CORMs for the Postoperative Ileus (POI), a condition usually found in patients that have undergone surgery; GalChimia’s synthetic expertise complements the Alfama’s deep biology knowledge about CORMs.

COPPER: GalChimia has been involved in the development of new chemistry reactions since its inception. Our current efforts are focused on the development of reactions promoted by copper salts, particularly the Chan-Lam reaction, a coupling reaction of boron derivatives with amines, alcohols and thiols. Our results are being published in top-ranked chemistry journals and are considered leading references in its field.

ENZYMATIC BIOTECHNOLOGY: GalChimia collaborates with academic research groups specialized in biochemistry and enzymology, looking for new enzymes extracted from extremophiles, microorganisms living in extreme pH and temperature environments. Our role in the project is to try the new enzymes with different reactions and substrates to stablish their synthetic applications.
