Galchimia, custom synthesis provider for NEOGENIUS

GalChimia has been selected as the custom synthesis provider for project NEOGENIUS. This project is a strategic alliance between the three biggest Spanish pharmaceutical companies, Almirall, Esteve and Palau Pharma, and the biotechnology company Proteomika. The main objective of this collaboration is the discovery and development of new medications for the treatment of arthrosis, a degenerative disease of the joints. The project will have a three-year duration with a budget of 15.4 million euros and will include the collaboration of several Public Research Entities (OPIs) as well as small- and medium-sized companies. GalChimia will be responsible for the preparation of several chemical series in the hit-to-lead and lead optimisation phase. Almirall, Esteve and Palau Pharma have expressed great enthusiasm with the participation of GalChimia in this project due to several years of very fruitful collaboration between them in the past.

The origins of the NEOGENIUS consortium can be traced back to the project GENIUS PHARMA, an initiative approved at the first summit of program CENIT in 2006 which included the participation of Almirall, Esteve and Palau Pharma, as well as GalChimia and the biotech companies CrystaX and Enantia. The external collaborations from NEOGENIUS have been established with platforms developed during the GENIUS PHARMA project.
