We are used to carry out reactions to yield a product. How about a reaction which yields two different products at the same time?

One step beyond reductive amination
Once again the development of an organometallic cross-coupling reaction increases the array of available methods to prepare amines. In this case, an alternative to the reductive amination.

What the Heck
Heck reaction has been around for more than 25 years and it comes in two flavours: oxidative and non-oxidative.

Brevity is the soul of wit
Short methods for preparing nitrogen heterocycles are always welcome. In this case, a new synthesis of 2-Alkylaminoquinazolinones is described.

Old rockers never die
Some chemists say that old chemistry is the best. This is true, specially when you improve it to modern standards to prepare imidazoles.

 Reaction optimization using DoE
Design of Experiments (DoE) sounds familiar to all process chemists, but most people confuses the application of DoE principles to the everyday work with an statistical software. DoE is not magic, not a program, just a way of doing things supported by Mathemathics. In this example we show how we applied DoE succesfully to an specific problem.

Review of the month : Potassium Organotrifluoroborates
When the organic chemist thinks about suitable boron groups for cross-coupling the answer is usually "boronic acids and boronates". The chemistry for the preparation and use of these compounds has been around for a while, it is well known and versatile also. But boron chemistry can be expanded and improved with the use of potassium organotrifluoroborates, compounds which overcome some limitations of the electrophilic boron atom and can be used in transition-metal-catalyzed reactions to introduce a wide range of R groups (alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, allyl, etc.). We have selected as review of this month "Potassium Organotrifluoroborates: New Perspectives in Organic Synthesis" by Darses and Genet (Chem. Rev. 2008; 108(1) pp 288 - 325). This review covers the preparation, properties and reactions of Organotrifluoroborates.
