Microwave-powered Cham-Lan-Evans
The Chan-Lam-Evans reaction is a recent addition to the arsenal of the modern chemist. Though it is a very interesting method for C-N bond generation, not many examples using microwaves are available.

A load of esters
For the fans of esters we have here a couple of palladium methods for the introduction of the carboxy moiety.

Room temperature is better
Direct C-H functionalization is an attractive way to increase molecular diversity. A new development allows the C-2 arylation of indoles using a room temperature Heck reaction.

Another one from Japan
From the Far East, here comes another interesting paper about C-H functionalization, in this case in benzoazoles.

Domino theory
Sequential one-pot creation of two bonds is an attractive way to make things. See here an example applied to benzoxazoles.

 Six months of newsletter
You have on your screen the third number of our newsletter. When we started with this project, by the end of 2007, our intention was to offer a useful tool to the community of organic chemists, with a special stress on those working in the medicinal chemistry field. We missed a chemistry focused newsletter covering just those papers which a bunch of hardcore organic chemists think are really relevant for other chemists working on drug discovery.

We can say now that we have accomplished our goal. Just with the first issue some colleagues told us that they had found things that they applied immediately in the lab. Since then, other subscribers have sent us similar messages of encouragement and more chemists have applied for subscription. So we want to thank all people for their interest, and here we go for another six months.
Review of the month : Green Microwaves
Microwaves have been termed “Bunsen burner of the 21st century”. The influence of this technique on the current medicinal chemistry methods can only be described as astonishing, specially in terms of time, one of the most critical parameters in drug discovery. A long way is still ahead and chemistry boundaries are expanding constantly. Given our interest in the microwave-assisted reactions we have selected for this month the review "Microwave-Assisted Organic Synthesis and Transformations using Benign Reaction Media" by Polshettiwar and Varma (Acc. Chem. Res., to be published). This review covers recent advances in the preparation of nitrogen heterocycles in aqueous media, reactions in ionic liquids and others.

 Our services : Process Development
The needs of our clients go beyond mere research, which has caused us to become specialists in process development. In order to do this we boast expert staff, dedicated to this field. In this case the work methodology is based upon the design and development of an economical, reproducible and scalable synthetic route to obtain a product that complies with the strict requirements governing purity that the market demands.
