Nickel-Catalyzed Suzuki–Miyaura Reaction of Aryl Fluorides

Coupling of fluoroaromatics with boronates using a Nickel catalyst.


It is official: We can couple everything. Not only the usual iodides and bromides, triflates and mesylates… Now we can couple even fluorides, which is indeed an achievement if you think that the C-F bond is one of the strongest single bonds to carbon.


The method described by Tobisu and Chatani (Osaka University, Japan) uses commercially available things like Ni(COD)2, PCy3, ZrF4 and CsF. They describe about 15 examples. Really impressive.
