Eserine is a parasympathomimetic alkaloid, specifically, a reversible cholinesterase inhibitor. It inhibits the acetylcholinesterase enzyme from breaking down acetylcholine, thereby increasing both the level and duration of action of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Physostigmine is a covalent inhibitors, it is used to treat glaucoma, Alzheimer’s disease, and delayed gastric emptying.
We have successfully synthesized the Eserine. This will be of interest to pharmaceutical companies and analytical labs.
