This month we have had many options for this section. Finally, we could not make our minds and we have chosen not one, but two reviews covering one of the most important tools in combinatorial chemistry, the Hugi reaction, and a review on a widespread type of heterocyclic rings, imidazolines. The review by El Kaim and Grimaud (Tetrahedron 2009, 65, 2153–2171) covers not exactly the Hugi reaction, but focuses on less conventional and sometimes more interesting interactions between the isocyanides and iminium species. The review by Crouch (Tetrahedron 2009, 65, 2387–2397) covers the synthesis of imidazolines, which have attracted considerable attention in recent years for the development of compounds with pharmacological useful properties.
