The influence of pressure in the outcome of chemical reactions is one of those factors that are mentioned in organic chemistry courses, but that nobody seems to take seriously. Although probably most of our readers will not benefit directly from these background concepts, we think the review we have selected this month is anyway worthwhile reading. “High pressure in organic chemistry on the way to miniaturization” by Verboom et al. (Tetrahedron 2008, 64, 10023) covers the role of pressure in several chemical reactions with special emphasis on miniaturized systems.
